8 Home Remedies For Removing Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are little tears in the layers of your skin. Like scars, they’ll fade, but they won’t disappear completely.

Stretch mark is a common problem among women, especially after pregnancy. There are many causes of stretch marks after pregnancy like as hormonal changes, fat loss in the abdomen after delivery, less elastic skin and so on. You see fine lines developing around the areas where fats have accumulated, usually in the stomach, chest, belly bottom and thighs. Now the question is how to get rid of stretch marks after delivery?

Stretch marks occur due to tearing of the skin’s layer, dermis, the middle layer of skin. As your little one grows in your belly, so make the stretch marks. The skin does not keep pace with the growing proportions of the body. This causes the elastic fiber of skin to break, dermis tears, and hence the marks. So it’s this rapid expansion and stretching leads to the formation of stretch marks. One gains weight and along with it comes these stretch marks.

It is always advisable to opt for safer home remedies which are as effective and a lot cheaper.

The basic idea is to moisturize your skin so that it remains well-hydrated. The more you keep your skin soft and supple, the less will be your stretch marks.

Over the months and years the lines will fade to fine streaks that are closer to your own skin colour. You may not like the look of your stretch marks now, but they will seem a whole lot better in six months’ time.

Here are some simple home remedies, using the ingredients available in your home, to do away with those stretch marks.

Sugar
Sugar is one of the best remedies for stretch marks. It exfoliates your dead skin, and your stretch marks turn lighter.

Take one tablespoon of sugar, mix with some almond oil and a few drops of lemon juice.
Use it as a scrub before you go for a shower.
Do this every day for a month.

Lemon Juice
The acidic property of lemon juice works in healing stretch marks.

Rub fresh lemon juice on the affected area.
Leave it for about 10 minutes so that the juice soaks into your skin.
Rinse off using warm water.
Apply every day for better results.
Or you can also make a mixture of lemon and cucumber juice in equal proportions and apply it on the stretch marks.

Water
The skin should be well-hydrated to erase the stretch marks and other skin conditions. Consume at least 10 to 12 glasses of water every day to keep your skin hydrated and protected from toxins. It keeps your skin supple and restores its elasticity. Try avoiding tea, coffee and soda as they are dehydrating agents.

Aloe Vera Gel
This little green plant works magic. Just take some Aloe Vera gel directly from the plant itself or buy from the market. There are many companies selling Aloe Vera gel in various price ranges. Rub it on the areas you have stretch marks. Let it dry for 20 minutes. Wash it off. Repeat it every day. You can also leave it all night. Aloe Vera is also a great moisturizer. Aloe Vera contains vitamins A, B, C, E. It has healing properties as well. Natural Aloe Vera is obviously more beneficial. You can pot up a small plant in your kitchen garden or your balcony and use garden fresh Aloe Vera.

Oil Therapy
You can use any available oil from your kitchen itself. Olive oil, jojoba oil, mustard oil, coconut oil, ghee, almond oil, jojoba or any other. Oils moisturize the skin with no side effects. Moisturizer helps the skin to heal better. All you need is to massage the area where you have stretch marks with any of these oils. You increase the efficacy and to lock the moisturisation; you can place wrap the area with the transparent sheet or even transparent polyethene. Placing a hot water bottle also helps. Let the heat perspire deep inside the body.

Leave the oil for an hour. It is advisable to do this every morning before you take a bath. You can also do it twice a day for early yet effective results. Ayurveda has time and again stressed the importance of natural oils. These oils can be mixed with essential oils like lavender, jasmine, monogram to add fragrance along with moisturisation.

Honey
The antiseptic property of honey works in reducing stretch marks.

Take a small cloth and apply honey on it.
Place the cloth on the affected area and let it remain until it turns dry.
Rinse off using warm water.
Or you can prepare honey scrub by mixing it with salt and glycerin. Apply it on the stretch marks, leave until it dries and rinse off using water.

Egg White
Egg white is rich in protein, which helps rejuvenate the skin and makes it look fresh.

Beat two egg whites using a fork.
Clean the affected area with water and apply a thick layer of egg white using a makeup brush.
Let it dry and then rinse off using cold water.
Apply some olive oil to keep the skin supple and moisturized.
Repeat it every day for at least two weeks. It helps improve your skin tone, and the marks fade away slowly.

Coffee Beans

Ingredients: 1/2 cup ground coffee beans; 2 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil

Preparation: 
Mix the coffee grounds and oil.
Use this mixture as a scrub on the affected areas. Massage gently in circular motions for best results.
Leave the scrub on for five minutes and then rinse with water.
The coffee beans scrub can be used 2-3 times a week.

The caffeine from the coffee grounds can easily penetrate your skin and revitalize the skin cells by stimulating circulation. This, along with the olive oil, ensures that plenty of nourishment is supplied to the affected area to heal the stretch marks. Coffee also contains antioxidants that reverse the damage and offer photoprotection.
