Best Friends of 60 Years Discover They’re Actually Brothers

Best friends Alan Robinson and Walter Macfarlane of Oahu, Hawaii, were gifted with a Christmas miracle this holiday. The pair, who have been friends for more than 60 years, found out they are biological brothers!

“I had a younger brother that I lost when he was 19, so I never had nieces or nephews,” Robinson told KHON2. “I thought I’ll never know my birth mother, I’ll never have any nieces or nephews.”

Curious about his biological father, Robinson decided it was time to get online and do a little research, only to find a major surprise. Through the DNA-matching website Ancestry.com, Robinson found that his grade-school friend was actually his brother. “It was a shock,” Macfarlane told KHON2.

Robinson and Macfarlane, who are just 15 months apart in age, have been practically inseparable since they met in sixth grade. Bonded by the fact that neither of them really knew their father, the pair forged a special friendship. They also played football together at Punahou, a private college in Honolulu, Hawaii.Once they get over the initial shock of this beautiful and strange miracle, Macfarlane and Robinson said that they plan on traveling and enjoying retirement together.
