The owner of a dog dragged for a half mile behind a truck will have to appear in court on a felony charge of animal cruelty.
The 2-year-old pit bull, Buddy, belongs to Timothy Nicholas, 60, of Lowell, MA, and is in rough shape.
All four of Buddy’s paws were bandaged, and his stomach and legs were shredded and red.
The dog must be under anesthesia for the rest of the week because its dressings must be constantly changed and cleaned up.
Police said that on Sunday Nicholas tied the dog to his van while he and a friend were at a park.
When Nicholas left the park with the friend, Buddy was leashed to the van. Eventually, the dog could no longer keep up with the moving van and was dragged.
