Soy sauce is one of the most popular ingredients used in the world. It’s made from mixture of soy legumes, salt, brine, roasted wheat grains and Aspergillus fungi.
Soy sauce contains large amounts of chemical called Isoflavones. These are phytoestrogens and one of the main chemicals that interrupts estrogen secretion and other hormonal activity in human. Because of non-specific nature of estrogen receptor present in human, these phytoestrogens increases the estrogen level, causing health problems in both women & men.
Soy sauce also contains high levels of phytic acid or phytates which block the absorption of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and especially zinc in the intestinal tract.
Health Dangers of Soy Sauce
1. Can Cause Breast Cancer
Isoflavones present in fermented soy products are proved to act as catalyst for rapid proliferation of cancerous cells in breasts.
2. Damages Thyroid
Soy contains goitrogens. These are substances that block the synthesis of thyroid hormones and interfere with iodine metabolism, thereby interfering with your thyroid function.
3. Sperm count may get effected
There are researches confirming decreased sperm count with soy product consumption. Excess soy sauce consumption increases level of sex hormone estrogen, creating abnormality in male reproductive health.
4. Contains MSG
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is addictive. It’s a brain stimulant and causes a lot of health issues (i.e. rapid heartbeat, tingling, depression, chest pain). Extra MSG is also added to enhance the flavor of soy sauce.
5. GM Soy Toxic
99% of soy is genetically modified and it among the highest contamination by pesticides of any of our foods.
6. Can Cause Heart Attacks
Soybeans also contain haemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance that causes red blood cells to clump together.
7. Can Damage Kidneys
Kidneys are affected by oxalates & phytoestrogens present in soy products. Oxalates cause kidney stones while high content of phytoestrogens might cause kidney failure.
