Have you ever wanted to make your own toothpaste? Well, now you can!
Here’s the ridiculously simple recipe:
¼ cup baking soda
1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
½ teaspoon neem oil
10 drops essential oil (peppermint, cinnamon, and/or clove)
Mix into a paste, store in a lidded glass jar, and brush away!
WHY IT WORKS
Baking soda: Baking soda is alkalizing and supports a healthy bacteria environment
Coconut oil: The oil-of-the-moment gets a lot of beauty props, but don’t let that overshadow that fact that it has antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits.
Neem oil: The antibacterial oil is an ancient oral hygiene go-to in India, plus science says it can reduce plaque, gum bleeding, and inflammation.
Peppermint oil: Antibacterial, antiviral, and anti fungal, the minty scent can wake up your mouth, plus research shows it can halt halitosis.
Cinnamon oil: Yes, it’ll give you cinnamon-fresh breath, but the slightly sweet oil has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cavity-causing bacteria.
Clove oil: Bitter taste aside, it’s a powerful antioxidant with antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, and analgesic properties that studies have linked to decreased dental pain.
