Seven Ways That Will Help You Keep Rats Out Of Your Home

Rodents are mammals of the order Rodentia, which are characterized by a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws. About 40% of all mammal species are rodents; they are found in vast numbers on all continents except Antarctica. They are the most diversified mammalian order and live in a variety of terrestrial habitats, including human-made environments.

Well-known rodents include mice and rats.

We all know that rats, mice in general can be a nasty thing to deal with, especially when they get in your house and start making trouble wherever they go.

They are known to chew through wires, make holes in your shoes, clothes and bedding, destroy your food supplies and simply make your life a living hell. They appear wherever there’s food lying around, in your basement, in your pantry, and can even start cruising around your kitchen and feed on all the breadcrumbs that fall off the food you eat. That’s why if you want to keep them at bay you need to keep all your food well protected, sweep the floors often and empty your trashcan regularly. They’re known to enter houses more often in the winter when it’s cold outside and the food is scarce and they’re looking for a refuge from the cold weather, so pay more attention in this period.

There are two rat species that are most common in the U.S.: the Norway rat and the roof rat. Along with the common house mouse, both rats are believed to have been brought to the U.S. aboard ships bound for the New World in the 17th and 18th centuries.

How to Eliminate Rodents

Mousetraps are the best way to get rid of these pesky rodents, just place them around the house and wait until they do their job.

Ultrasonic mice scavengers
At present, these devices became more and more well-known. The ultrasound fills out your whole space and the mice are unable to keep with it and can run off. This particular sound is not able to harm people and we are not able to hear it.

Peppermint oil
Mix it inside the home, specifically in the area where you have seen the actual mice. They are going to get away simply because they cannot keep up with the odor of peppermint..

Rodent glue
If you’ve ever had mice in your house you probably know how the glue works. Just spread a generous amount onto a cardboard and place it where you believe there are rodents. They’ll stick to it and won’t be able to move. Just throw them out and you’re done.

Hot Spices
Similarly, to the last method, this is also in line with the mice’s failure to keep up with spicy meals. Therefore, use several drops of very hot sauce into different areas of your house to keep all of them at bay.

Hot chili flakes
Mix some hot chili flakes with parmesan flakes and sprinkle them around the house. Rodents can’t digest hot spices and when they eat it along with the parmesan it’ll be the end of them.

Cats as pets
Some of the cats are lazier than the others, and it might be questionable if your cat is able to get this done or not. In case your pet cannot get the task done, you should lend your friend’s or neighbor’s cat and find out how it goes.
