14 Foods To Do And Don’t Eat On An Empty Stomach

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, because it’s the start of our day and if we get out of the house on the wrong foot, then our whole day will follow its course. It’s true that lunch should be richer and more colorful, however breakfast is all about choosing the right ingredients, which will give you the right kick of your day.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t have time to eat the breakfast we’d like to every day.

Sure, a stack of pancakes, a strip of bacon, and a cup of yogurt would be a great way to start the morning, but some of us are lucky if we even get a chance to consume anything besides a cup of coffee.

Whether you have an empty stomach after waking up or later in the day, you might just grab a quick snack like a pastry or a fruit. However, those foods may actually not be the best for your stomach.

Read below to find out which foods you should eat and which foods you should avoid on an empty stomach.

Do- Eggs
Eggs are an excellent choice for a breakfast as they are high in protein and nutrients which boost metabolism and provide high energy levels. Eggs also cut the daily intake of calories.

Do- Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in nutrients and regulate blood pressure, boost metabolism, and improve memory, concentration, and focus.

Do- Oatmeal
If you want to have the perfect breakfast in the morning, start your day with oatmeal. It protects your stomach from hydrofluoric acid as well as protects your stomach from getting damaged or irritated. Oatmeal contains soluble fiber which is great for your metabolism as well as for lowering your cholesterol.

Do- Honey
If you thought that coffee can wake you up in the morning, you thought wrong. Honey will shake your organism in the morning and increase your energy levels as well as improve your mood, because it increases the serotine hormone- the one responsible for your happiness. It also awakens the brain and you will be more productive and focused throughout the entire day.

Do- Nuts
Eating nuts during breakfast time will improve your digestion and restore the normal pH levels in your stomach. Eat a handful of unsalted nuts a day and this will be a great start of your morning.

Do – Watermelon
Watermelons are full of water and lycopene which supports heart and eye health.

Do – Buckwheat
Buckwheat is high in minerals and vitamins, especially iron, and it boosts metabolism. It is also rich in protein so it effectively boosts your energy levels.

Don’t– Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits like lemons, oranges and grapefruits are high in vitamin C, but they are not the best choice for breakfast as their acidity might lead to heartburn and raise the risk of gastric ulcers and gastritis.

Don’t – Banana
If you eat bananas on a completely empty stomach for breakfast, you will boost the magnesium levels in your blood, and thus lead to heart issues. So bananas aren’t the best standalone breakfast choice and we recommend you to take it along with nuts, blueberries, or honey.

Don’t- Spicy Food
Generally, spicy foods are beneficial for health, but if consumed in the morning, they can irritate the whole digestive system and lead to heartburn and damage to the gastric mucosa.

Don’t – Tomatoes
Tomatoes have tannic acid which irritates the stomach and may lead to gastric ulcers and heartburn, so make sure you postpone their consumption until lunch.

Don’t- Sodas and carbonated beverages
Unless it’s a freshly made smoothie or juice, there isn’t anything that could replace water in the morning and sodas and carbonated drinks are definitely not on your healthy list. Not for breakfast, nor lunch. You should avoid Coke or any other drinks full with sugar. Those drinks will only slow down your metabolism and give you the feeling of being bloated the entire day.

Don’t- Green veggies
Green vegetables will be the perfect choice for a salad during lunch, but this is not the same for breakfast. Raw green veggies are rich in amino acids which may lead to the feeling of a heartburn as well as flatulence. If you feel an abdominal pain, you can also blame the green veggies, because they will only irritate your stomach, if consumed on an empty stomach.

Don’t- Pear
Pears are high in crude fiber which might lead to stomachache and damage of the mucous membrane.
